The Safety of Homebirth

Many people wonder if homebirth is a safe option.

The evidence seems to be clear that for women who are low

risk, healthy, and having consistent prenatal care with

trained, skilled midwives that outcomes are better for

mother and baby at home.

One of the main factors that makes homebirth safe is

when midwives can work in collaboration with obstetricians

and other health care professionals.

The midwife is well trained in what is normal, and when

things look outside the scope of normal, she can consult

and transfer care for women and babies who would be better

cared for in the hospital.
