Midwifery Services

As your midwife I offer distinctly unique care:

  • Prenatal appointments

Prenatal care appointments are important time for you to learn more about your pregnancy and upcoming birth.  I perform all the clinical skills that you would expect at a regular, low risk, routine prenatal exam. Each visit involves checking your weight, urine, blood pressure, fundal height, baby's position, and baby's heart beat. We discuss nutrition, concerns and discomforts at every visit.  I take the time to explain everything I am doing and your questions are honored and explored.  While a routine OB office appointment may take 10 minutes of actually seeing the doctor, I spend 1-2 hours with you at each appointment.  You are able to bring your children and I am happy to make them part of your visit.

  • Holistic approach to pregnancy

    • I provide all encompassing care and referral to providers for complimentary services.  Referrals to acupuncturists, massage therapists, prenatal yoga teachers, chiropractors, and counselors  that serve pregnant women.

  • Dedicated service

    • I only accept 3-4 clients/month. I purposefully have a low volume practice so I can be available for individual care

  • Collaborative care with other medical professionals

    • When optimal for my clients pregnancy and birth I easily collaborate with other medical professionals and physicians to provide cooperative care.

    • tests are easily ordered and transfers of care are done with ease with a homebirth supportive hospital based practice

Midwives Are Trained Professionals

Midwives are the traditional care providers for mothers and infants. Midwives are trained professionals with expertise and skills in supporting women to maintain healthy pregnancies and have optimal births and recoveries during the postpartum period. Midwives provide women with individualized care uniquely suited to their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs. Midwifery is a woman-centered empowering model of maternity care that is utilized in all of the countries of the world with the best maternal and infant outcomes such as The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Canada.

Midwives value communication and developing a trusting, working relationship with the women and families they serve. In the course of developing that relationship, midwives provide personalized and thorough care at many levels: preconception, pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, and beyond. Many midwives provide primary health care, gynecological care, and care of the normal newborn. Some midwives prescribe medications including family planning and contraceptive methods. In addition to being trained to conduct comprehensive physical exams and order laboratory, screening and other diagnostic tests, midwives provide extensive health care education and counseling, as well as engage in shared decision-making with their clients and patients.
